In the 1830s, Leamington House was the seat of a plantation that stretched down to the sea. In the 1950s, Oliver Messel stayed there and was so enthused that he persuaded his friends the Heinzes (of Heinz ketchup fame) to buy it, with the lure that he would decorate it.
