Sol Rally Barbados typically occurs in the first weeks of June, with Scrutineering and King of the Hill happening at the end of May. Every Year the organising team is focused on delivering the core values of a seriously competitive event, while maintaining the relaxed clubman-type atmosphere and delivering the level of hospitality that visiting crews and their families have come to enjoy, and which bring them back year after year.
The BRC had more than one reason to celebrate its landmark event: records broken included the number of overseas entries (45), overseas participants (89), first-time overseas participants (43), cars in the 4wd classes (28) and female competitors (16) . . . while the Marshall family recorded the longest journey by a competing crew with their 28,650kms round trip from New Zealand!
Jamaica’s Jeffrey Panton led an overseas lock-out of Sol RB15, only the second time in the event’s history that Barbados was not represented on the podium; driving a Ford Focus WRC06, he beat double European Champion Simon Jean-Joseph,with former UK National Rally Champion and double Sol RB winner Paul Bird third, both in Focus WRC08s. Panton said: “It was by far the most difficult rally to win that I have ever competed in. To win against such a quality field means a lot.”Visits the Rally Barbados for more information - http://www.rallybarbados.bb/
